The tourism of meetings has increased by 16% in 2006. More than 82.000 persons have visited the Balearic Islands in order to participate in meetings, congresses or similar events. This is an increase of about 16% compared to 2005. Most visitors came from Spain, followed by Germans and Britons. Most events that attracted these visitors were related to tourism, technology and healthcare. Palma de Mallorca´s airport with excellent connections to most of Europe´s airports is one of the reasons for the increase. Plenty of capacity in hotels seeking for new business during off-peak seasons may also have contributed to the new development. |

In 2006 only 197 marriages are going to be celebrated in the city of Palma de Mallorca. Considering about 350.000 inhabitants this is certainly a very low figure. At the same time some 30 gay marriages will be celebrated.
