With our new map feature you can now track those vessels and access additional information on them, including lots of photos. The map is dynamic and you can zoom in and out to other regions...

If you have ever wondered which ships lay anchored in the port of Palma or the Bahia of Palma, you can look them up on the website www.marinetraffic.com. Iscomar's long term guest Pilar del Mar is still anchored in the Bahia among several other vessels. |

The Ma-13 motorway from Palma to Inca is due to be upgraded to a full 6 lane motorway. Work has already begun and the upgrade may be completed in late 2009. According to different sources, the funds necessary for the upgrade vary from 26.9 to almost 80 million Euros. Currently the Ma-13 only features three lines from Palma to Marratxi... |

Prices for energy in Mallorca have risen significantly over the last few month. Low prices for electricity seem to come to an end with the latest increases of local energy giant GESA. The increase from November 2007 to March 2009 has been a stunning 25.2%... |

On December 31st, a major landslide in the Sierra de Tramuntana left the Ma-10 blocked with huge stones and soil. The landslide was a result of the strong rainfall over the last couple of weeks. About 90 metres of the road were covered by rocks and soil and cut off a major route in the Sierra de Tramuntana... |

If you ever happened to arrive at Palma de Mallorca's airport you are likely to know that luggage at the airport has been an issue for a long time. Lost luggage, long waiting times, damaged luggage and so on. It seems as if this has changed now. With two arrivals in November where my luggage reached the belt before I even got there from the gate, I get the impression that both, staff and attitude seem to have changed.. |

Living on an island includes pros and cons. In many aspects you got what's around and that is it. So what about high-speed internet? Are people on the Balearic Islands unprivileged compared to mainland Spaniards? I wanted to know and did some research finding surprising results... |

Water supplies for 2008 from the islands' damns looks good at this stage of the year. With slightly more than 90% of the lakes "Gorg Blau" and "Cuber" filled up, a severe draught looks very unlikely in 2008. However, citizens and tourists on the island should keep trying to save water just as Golf Clubs and other heavy users should do as well.

The idea is not new, and actually Palma used to have one before. You will easily guess that this is about the tram, the first of which was built in Palma back in September 1891 when a first line linked "Plaza d'en Coll" and "Porto Pi". In recent years, politicians have raised the idea of a new tram repeatedly, though with limited success so far... |

Currently the local government is proceeding with the installation of a range of speed cameras on the roads of Mallorca. It seems to be certain that there will be at least one camera on the motorway from Inca to Palma, approximately where the "Festival Park" is located. I will check on all those new installations and provide you with a Google Map with the exact locations as soon as possible. |

Everyone living on the island of Mallorca will have noticed that there are many things that simply do not work, no matter how much you insist or keep going after them. A very reputable exception, at least from a consumers point of view is EMAYA (Empresa Municipal de Agua y Alcantarillado). The folks working at the company do the "dirtiest" job on the island, but they might be the best of all... |

Back on April 25th, 2007, Palma de Mallorca's ambitious project of an own metro had been completed after almost two and a half years of planning and construction. Today, October 24th, 2007, it is time for a first review of the new means of transport that links the city centre of Palma with the University in the suburbs. |
